Privacy policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026

ReadingSucks.com (“we,” “us”) respects your privacy. This page explains what information is collected when you use this site and how it’s used.

Information we collect

Things you give us. If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address to send it. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email. Our email provider stores your address on our behalf.

Things collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider may log basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, to keep the site running and secure. We also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, for example which pages are popular. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages visited, approximate location and device type. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

We show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. You can turn off personalized advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, and learn more about how Google uses information in How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ personalized ads at aboutads.info.

Cookies and consent

The first time you visit, a cookie notice explains how this site uses cookies and makes money. You can choose Accept all, Reject optional, or open Settings to switch Google Analytics and personalized ads on or off separately. Essential storage (used to remember your choice) is always on. You can change your mind any time with the Privacy settings link at the bottom of every page.

We use Google Consent Mode, so Google Analytics and Google AdSense follow your choice. If you turn off personalized ads, Google can still show you ads, but they won’t be based on your interests.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland: analytics and advertising cookies stay off until you agree. Consent in those regions is collected through Google’s consent message, which lets you accept, reject or manage individual purposes and vendors.

Third-party content

Some pages load content from other services, which may receive your IP address when your browser requests it: fonts from Google Fonts, book cover images from Open Library, and podcast artwork from Apple.

When you use the search bar, the words you type are also sent to Apple’s public iTunes Search service so we can show audiobooks and podcasts that aren’t on our own lists. We don’t store your searches, and Apple receives them along with your IP address under Apple’s privacy policy.

Affiliate links and cookies

When you click a link to a store such as Amazon, Audible or Libro.fm, that store (or its affiliate network, such as Awin) may place cookies in your browser so it can credit us for your purchase. Those cookies are controlled by those companies and covered by their privacy policies. We never see your purchases, payment details or account information.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your privacy rights (US state residents)

We don’t sell your personal information for money. However, letting Google use cookies to show personalized ads may count as “selling” or “sharing” personal information for targeted advertising under some US state laws, such as California’s. To opt out, use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link at the bottom of any page and turn off Personalized ads. We also honor the Global Privacy Control signal: if your browser sends it, personalized ads are switched off automatically. You can also ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you by emailing us. We won’t treat you differently for using these rights.

Your choices

Use the Privacy settings link to change your cookie choices at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and use the opt-out links above for analytics and personalized ads. To ask about, correct or delete any information we hold about you, email us at askus@flagstonemedia.com.
